How "mg per kg" dosing works
It is widely used, but vomiting or appetite loss has many causes. Speak to your vet first, particularly if signs last more than a day.

Warnings before giving Pepcid
- Use plain famotidine. "Pepcid Complete" adds antacids.
- Famotidine can reduce absorption of some other medicines; tell your vet what else your dog takes.
- Dogs with kidney disease may need a lower dose.

The usual veterinary reference range is 0.5–1 mg/kg every 12–24 hours. A 44 lb (20 kg) dog comes to 10–20 mg, one Original Strength or one Maximum Strength tablet. Confirm with your vet.
How long does Pepcid take to work in dogs?
It begins lowering stomach acid within 1–2 hours. If your dog keeps vomiting, will not eat, or seems painful, see a vet rather than repeating doses.
Can I give Pepcid to my dog every day?
Vets do prescribe it daily for some conditions, but its effect weakens over a couple of weeks of continuous use. Long-term use should be vet-directed.
