How these calculators work
Toxicity isn't about what a pet ate so much as how much per kilogram of pet. Two squares of dark chocolate are a stomach ache for a Labrador and an emergency for a Chihuahua. Each calculator converts what you tell us into a dose per kilogram and compares it with thresholds published in the Merck Veterinary Manual and by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.
For medicines, we show the reference range vets commonly start from, never a single "safe" number, and we refuse to calculate a home dose for drugs that shouldn't be given without a vet (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin). Every result says the same thing in the end: confirm with your vet. Your pet's weight is remembered on this device only, so you don't retype it on every page.
